Why is the Assessor’s Office re-measuring my home?
The Lake Villa Township Assessor’s Office is making field inspections to improve the quality and accuracy of our records. A comprehensive inspection of properties has not been completed in this Township for a very long time. As part of the modernization of the assessment process, ensuring we have the most accurate property description is top priority.
My office is in the final stages of the multi-year re-inspection program. There are over 13,000 homes in the Township. To date we have re-measured over 11,000 homes with the remaining properties to be inspected this year. We have completed work in the western portion of the Township and finishing in the east.
We have 2 teams of field inspectors. For public safety our inspectors wear ID badges and they have signs on their cars. Also we notify each property of the up coming inspection by mailing postcards. In addition, we notify the local police departments that we are working in an area.
The purpose of the inspections is to verify the physical description of your property used in appraising your home for assessment purposes. In order to create accurate assessed values, it is necessary to have an accurate property description.
We will not need to enter your home. Nor will you need to be present at the time of inspection. Rather, all inspections will be exterior inspections. Our field inspectors will also be taking pictures of your home.
After the inspections, homeowners are encouraged to verify your characteristics by using the internet. Links to this data and instructions on how to use the application can be found on the "Instructions for Web Use" page.
If you have and question or concerns please feel free to contact my office.
